Separate timing from preparation
The calendar does not determine whether every section is ready. Snow cover, saturated ground, soft low spots, and uneven early growth may change what is practical. This checklist assumes the property has already been evaluated for seasonal readiness and focuses on preparing the work area.
If part of the lawn is still soft or wet, identify it instead of asking equipment to cross it. A service visit may need to be adjusted around the property condition.
Remove loose items and winter debris
Walk the entire mowing area and pick up branches, stones, trash, toys, hoses, cords, decorations, pet waste, and other movable items. Check fence lines, the shaded sides of buildings, curb edges, and former snow-stacking areas because debris can collect there after snowmelt.
Leaf and loose-debris cleanup can be quoted when the property needs more than a quick pickup. The estimate should state whether material will be gathered, bagged, hauled away, or placed in an approved on-site location.
Mark features that could be hidden by growth
Identify irrigation heads, exposed wires, utility covers, shallow drains, new seed, small stumps, edging, decorative borders, young trees, low fixtures, and any area the mower should avoid. The quote should identify which lawn sections are reachable with mowing equipment and where string trimming may be needed. Travel paths between disconnected areas can affect the time involved even when those paths are not being mowed.
Define the first-visit scope
Decide whether the request includes mowing only or also string trimming, edging, blowing clippings from hard surfaces, and leaf or loose-debris cleanup. These are separate details that should be written into the estimate rather than assumed.
An overgrown first cut may require a different approach from a lawn already within its normal maintenance range. Send current photographs or request a walkthrough so the height, density, debris, access, and requested finish can be reviewed.
Keep unsupported lawn work out of the request
